Diabetes is quite a common medical condition occurring to middle aged people (40 years or more) and also sometimes begins from childhood in some rare cases. Diabetes basically occurs when there is abnormally high amount of sugar or glucose in the blood. Glucose is nothing but a type of sugar formed in our body when we consume honey and some fruits. Insulin, which is a kind of hormone or chemical helps to tighten the levels of glucose so as to prevent a patient from developing diabetes. Insulin, being a hormone can be produced by the Pancreas gland, which in turn makes use of the glucose by stimulating the body. But in some rare cases, the pancreas gland releases no insulin at all, thus automatically inducing Diabetes to the patient and sadly in these cases, the ones involved are children as such a condition occurs during childhood. So, these children have to rely on treatment with insulin just to survive. Here, the symptoms are clear on the onset of the disease.

But the more common form of Diabetes occurs to people of the age group of 40 or more. In these cases, unlike the unfortunate children, the people involved can produce insulin by the help of their pancreas glands but just not in sufficient quantity so as to control the rising glucose or sugar levels that lead to Diabetes. But in these cases, the symptoms are not so easy to detect and they usually get detected much later than the patients develop diabetes. But some diseasewgeneral symptoms are extreme tiredness, weight loss, itchy skin, blurred vision etc.

But, Diabetes cannot be taken lightly. It can be a life long chronic condition. Initially, what happens is that excess amounts of glucose in the body results in excess glucose in urine, thus making us dehydrate and a lot thirsty all the times. Both the cases mentioned above, diabetes could be controlled by a healthy diet, regular exercise and treatment with insulin. From personal experience as a lot of my family members have diabetes, if not treated properly, can be very painful as the regular intake of insulin almost everyday in strict measured quantities can be both painful and agonizing to bear for the people around. Diabetes can be the cause of some serious unwanted consequences like kidney failure, numbness, weakness and worst it can also increase the possibility of heart attack which is a fatal but common occurrence for middle and old aged persons. There is another form of diabetes called gestational diabetes, occurring to women during pregnancy. It’s a temporary condition arising due to pregnancy to some women and it usually occurs in the later stages, when the baby has formed inside but is still undergoing the growth process. Though there is still not the ‘Perfect Cure’ for Diabetes, it can be controlled by an active and regular treatment plan like regular check up of sugar or glucose in one’s blood, along with not to mention, the stipulated, strict diet and fitness regime. Though, with the miracles of science almost working everywhere these days, scientists and doctors are working together to find a group of medicines which could successfully reduce the risk of the various consequences of diabetes like kidney and eye diseases, to name a few.
